A rifle is a much more ethical weapon to use if you have the choice. If you shoot a hundred deer with a rifle and another hundred with a bow, the percentage of lost animals will be much higher with a bow.
You have seen most the places I hunt, 90 Percent of the deer I have shot with my rifle have been within bow range, so I have no problem getting close to deer, but when you do hunt thick woods, they can go fifty yards and be hard to find.

I prefer Bow hunting Whitetails in IL, because the Gun Season here only last 8 days of the entire season. DNR also only allows Shotguns to be used to harvest Whitetails. So all in all, I prefer to just hunt with my Bow. Now when I hunt Kentucky, it's a different story. There Gun Season is much longer & I love taking out the 30-30 & sniping em from a distance.

The thick woods forgives a rifle moreso than a bow. I have no intentions on loosing a deer or having to track one for hours while it bleeds to death...even from a well placed arrow. Getting close to the deer is thrillingly the same regardless of the weapon. However, being able to reach out and take those deer that aren't close enough warrents a rifle the better deer hunting weapon of choice. Far more killing power regardless of shot angle and placement with a rifle also.

Never hunted deer with a rifle because it's not allowed in southern MN. We can use shotgun which I do once in a while.

I would hunt with anything that was legal. I love bow hunting but when rifle season opens, so long bow. I love hunting. All in all though I will gun hunt over bow hunting.

Bow. I bowhunt until I quit seeing deer or the season ends, whichever comes first.

I hunt with my bow until rifle season mainly just to be in the woods then it's rifle until the end of rifle season. Now I have used my shotgun in the thick of the woods but that was just in places I couldn't get a good rifle shot off. All above a .22 is legal here for gun season...

i picked rifle. bow season opens up for us on september 15th each year and it's usually over 90 degrees and if you can stand the heat, the skeeters will tote you off. besides that i don't much like having to wait a day to find my deer good shot or not.

Bow for me, nothing like the feeling of getting a deer with a bow, that unmistakable Thwack! However, I do use shotgun and muzzleloader, but if I only got to use one it would be a bow

well this poll kind of makes me scratch my head I loved bowhunting when I had the time to do all the necessary preparations and could spend the time doing it right. I haven't bow hunted in 10 yrs or so but when I see the pics of others I am extremely jealous. On the other hand I enjoy rifle just as much. There is nothing more exhilarating as dropping a big buck at 150+ yrds when he's flat out on the run. I had to give my vote for rifle.......not an easy choice.
