So i went out scouting for turkeys and came up on them so i stopped and hid. I watched 8 hens and 3 toms and 2 jakes for over 10 min. The one thing i noticed was none of the toms had any beards. :oThese were not young toms either. >:(So after watching them i went to another spot where the birds hang out and seen 4 more toms thay also had no or very short beards. :DIve never seen this before. What would cause this to happen. Is it a lack of minerals or maybe genetics? Im at a loss for whats going on.

This is very weird. do you have any pics? Ive heard of maybe like 1 in a group that has a short beard or very little but never so many.

Did you have lots of deep snow this year? I don't know how true this is, but I've heard that a build up of snow and ice can break off the "hairs" of a turkey's beard.
Smoke...

I have heard this as well but to happen on so many birds is very odd. Hey Pass sent those Birds down south, I heard the Hens like short things down there. ;D

We did have alot of snow this year. I just put my trail cam out o the food plot hoping to get some pics. Im beggining to think you may be right on them breaking off. Went and checked some other spots yesterday and only seen 2 outta 8 that had any type of beard.

Beard Rot is my guess.. beards get brittle in the snow & ice and break off.
