I redid my bow pins today. I know I shouldnt mess with it so close to the season but I wanted to switch it up for where I have my stand set up this year.
What is the distances for your sight pins on your bow?
I did <35'....55'....75'.
Just looking for input.

I usually have mine set for 20 30 and 40 yards. Do you have you pins set for feet or yards? To me from 0 to 20 yards there is not enough change in the arrow to have a pin closer. What poundage you shooting?

I shoot feet because my boot is 12" and I step off reference points in my shooting lanes so I know what the distances are. For instance...I mark a tree 30' 50' and 70'. It helps me take out the guess work.
I am shooting 65 lbs.
I dont shoot accurate enough(8/10 arrows in a 10" group at 75') for anything longer.

I like to know that when my arrow leaves the rest. it hits what I am aiming at. I have seen too many guys shoot beyond their ability or range. Not fair to the deer or other hunters.

The Longest shot Ive ever taken on a deer was 28 yards. Most have been under 20 yards. In your case I think the way you have them set up will work. You could probably get by with just 2 pins set at 45' and 75'. The important thing is that you are comfortable where the pins are and practice practice practice.

I wouldn't take a shot that far unless conditions were absolutely perfect. Longest shot so far was a lasered 42 yards. Dead calm wind, doe standing broadside. Double lunged her and she piled up 30 yards from where she stood.

I have a pistol type sight that is good out to about 25 yards. I haven't shot enough with the new sight to know where to hold past 30 yards, but I don't shoot that far anyway cause it's beyond my ability.

I had 3 pins and had the bottom pin sighted in with the rear sight at 40yards. Then I sighted in my middle pin for 30 and top pin for 20 all while leaving the bottom pin and rear sight lined up together. Hope that makes since to you.

I MUST be doing something wrong because I dont think I would take a shot over 35 yards because: (for me...)
1. not a high probability of a kill shot (velocity and accuracy) 2. wounding and never finding 3. spooking with a miss and never seeing him for the rest of the season 4. I still get buck fever whenever I see that tail flicker

I am actually more comfortable, and shoot better groups, at 40 yards than I do at 30. Don't know why, just do. I would seriously suggest finding out if your bow fits you, and if it is tune. When I upgraded bows in 2004, I went from shooting BIG groups at 20 yards to tearing fletching off at 20. Main reason was not because I got a newer bow, but because it was fitted to me for length, and was in tune. Something to consider.

I use three pins. 20 30 40. I regularly shoot 40 practicing because it makes the shorter shot seem like chip shots. I would never take a shot past 40 though because the loss of kenetic energy is borderline for making an ethical clean kill. That energy is what makes penetration possible and the more you lose the less it penetrates. Just the way i roll!!! lol

I have 3 pins but only use 2, practice out to 30 yards. My own opinion is there are a lot of variables with archery hunting in the woods, especially where its thick anc I dont want to take a chance of missing/ wounding a deer and losing it or spooking it. I know guys who can touch arrows out to 50 yards, but I wouldt want to chance it hunting. As long as you are comfortable to the longer shots, go for it!

20 30 40 50 60,......added a pin to the 4 pin extreme last year,.... if the shot is there, and clean, Im lettin go,......to me after 60 no matter how quiet , or fast your bow is, its givin them enough time to react to the slap of the string,.... J M O ,.... I have always felt that way, but round here, if you get a shot at 60, your in a field

I have a pendulum sight with marks at 20 30 and 40. for some reason like JD I shoot better groups at 40 than 30 as well. I don't shoot past 40. But don't ask me what I did one time when the biggest buck I had ever seen stepped out in a road at 75 yards......
Ok, aimed 6 in. over his back and let her rip. The arrow hit the ground in front of him and slid by his feet. This was when I was about 14. and my bow was only about 50 lbs.
They killed the buck dog hunting the next week. It was a 24 inch wide 11 point. The guy that killed it looked like the "they see me rolling" picture. He killed it sitting on his tail gate.
