My neighbor took a doe over the weekend & we got to talkin bout where he's been hunting. He told me bout a little 425 acre park bout 30 mins from us. He said its not hunted very much because you have to have a special permit from DNR. The nearest DNR office is bout an hour & a half away. So we drove up there Monday & got a free site permit to access the park.
My neighbor gave me a few copies of his topo & sat maps, so We went out last night & glassed it from the truck till dark, then did some light scouting under the cover of night. There is alot of deer activity here. From the lowest elevation to the highest is over 100 ft & its cut up from water run-off. Should be a great place to find that Monster Illinois WhiteTail.
We're gonna go out Sat & Sun to this Ridge I pointed to on the Map below. The Ridge overlooks a soy plot, the road & a thicket running up the east side of the ridge. There are two prominant game trails we saw crossing the road here. We hiked the west trail up & found the east trail back down. The ridge itself is tall prairie grass bout waste high. There are huge bedding areas on the east side of the ridge in the grass & alot of scrapes & rubs on the wood line & on the trails. The X;s on the maps are where we're gonna set-up to cover the most angles. I figure when the warm airs rise from the sun heating up the east side of that ridge, the deer will bed down for some morning sun bathing & that will put them in our laps. So I'm gonna take my ass up on that ridge this weekend & do alittle huntin.
