I didnt see the story, but if someone lost a loved one because a gun went off, then Im sorry but the blame lies squarely on their shoulders. A bullet flies in a straight line, so if their loved one was shot, it was because the rifle was PONTED AT THEM when they were fiddling with it!!! It is not the repsonsibilty of Remington to cure stupidity or carelessness!!

You can't really argue that accidents are only because someone pointed the gun in an unsafe direction. There are lots of unsafe directions and it is impossible to keep your gun always in a safe direction.
Ok, your next argument would be if it is loaded. But the first rule is always treat a gun as if it was loaded.
But, the Field and Stream article makes plenty of sense, and I do still want a Rem 700 one day.

Im not arguing that the gun wouldnt go off, Im just saying that the idiot holding it should NEVER have had it pointed at someone. There is no excuse for that ,and it is carelessness pure and simple. It has nothing to do with defective firearms. That is a completely different argument.

i have never had a problem with my previous rem 700. the only time i had a problem is when my buddy did the trigger job made it to light, and made me lose a opportunity of a life time, with a drop tine buck, when i click the safety off the rifle fired..
