I need your help again guys. I found a rub line that has a couple 4-5 inch trees that are tore up! Where should I put my stand? On one end of the line about 200 yards away is a field. On the other end about 150yds goes across a road to a hillside. I'm assuming this is it's bedding area and it is feeding in the field. By the rubs on the trees it looks like he is traveling from the road to the field. I'm limited with trees between the road and the rubs but there are a couple places I could put a stand. From the rubs to the field the trail drops down into a valley. One side is a rock cliff and shouldn't have any trouble finding a good tree. I was thinking to put the stand before the rubs so maybe I could see him before dark? Where do you think I should put it? I can easily place it at the rubs to.

I just read an article that said if you find fresh aggresive looking rubs right now to hunt them hard. It said that the bucks are full of testosterone and taking frustration of not being able to get any does yet out on the trees.

Sounds like before them would be best to increase the changes of seeing him earlier.
Are there rubs heading in both directions? Has the area been hit in past years?
I like hunting rub lines that pop up in the same places year after year, so take a look and see if there are any old ones around also. If there are the area may be hot with Bucks using it year after year or the same one Buck using it.

Can you post a map of the area? Lets get an overhead view to better help determine set-up location.

Arrowhawk, there are some small rubs in this area from year to year.
On point, I don't have a map to post. I'll try to find something when I get home.

What are you waiting for get in there and hammer him? An overhead would be helpful but I would say if you can hang in the first part of it and off 20 yards. Also check the area parallel to it you may find around run or 2 with no rubs which would be down wind of the rub line. I see this alot and its usally a run more Does use a Buck keeps his distances until its time. If you can find a run like that set up between the 2 just incase he finds a hot Doe and trails her down the other one. Just a thought but that way you can watch both if its possible.

There is another heavily use trail on the opposite hillside. I'll try to find a place in between them. My wife had surgery today or I would have already been there! Lol

Ok see what you can do with this. I think he is traveling from south. Arrows = fields diamonds= rubs triangles= rock cliff orange line = buck trail green line= doe trail

You can tell which way he is traveling by looking at which side of the tree's have been rubbed. I would have a morning stand set up between the doe and buck trails. I would also set an evening stand up about a 100 yards from the most active field to try and catch the buck in a staging area. He should have some rubs on the edges of the field that he is most often visiting. As the rut approaches, he will be checking the doe's more often and hunting the doe trails would be your ticket! He will be much more interested in a hot doe than a cold tree to rub! LOL.... Good luck!!

Rub lines are hit or miss in my opinion...a deer can make them over night and NOT ever visit that area again. I've never put much stock in rub lines. Now scrapes on the other hand....now you're talking set-up a stand, add some trophy buck from time to time and wait on him or his rival to show up.

Id would be putting up a trail cam to see where and when he is coming through then set up accordingly. He may not even cross the road till after dark. If ya go in there and he bust you he will be gone.

Trail camera is already up. When I get off work I'm going to check it and then put my stand up.

No, they are diff. the first one is wider and higher. The brow tines are the give away. The first ones brows point out, the second ones brows pt in.

The first pic looks to be a bigger body deer also.

I don't know grassi...they may be the same deer just differnt pictures angle and head position. And again looking at the time stamps you can forget about catching him at that rub line during shooting hours.

Definately2 different bucks. Now just trying to locate them in the daylight. Hmmmm got a decoy? ? That would be my tactic to try. Put out a decoy and start calling. May be you will get lucky.

Wooohooo!! Two shooters and possibly 3!! Now the bad part is I can't get to them in the daylight. No I don't have a decoy. I guess I'll just have to wait them out and hope they make a mistake. Now that the big ones are coming in, I'm starting to think that letting the little ones walk is starting to pay off! Sometimes I'll get one big deer on camera but never 2 or 3! Plus I have several small bucks!
