Duracoat is a great finish.
It wears very well, protects very well, and it is affordable and easy to apply yourself. I would seriously put it up against any finish on the market. There are some that are better, but they come at a much higher cost. And while those finishes are better, they are not 3-4 times better which is the price difference.
What is really different about it, you can apply it yourself. Not only that, but unlike most finishes you could apply yourself, this one does not require baking. It does take a couple weeks to "cure". But even after that time, it isn't done. It keeps getting tougher with age.
I have done a couple rifles, three shotguns, and a dozen or so handguns in duracoat. I have been nothing but impressed with the results. A good friend of mine lives on the coast of Florida, and his shotgun kept rusting. Mind you, he bought a "marine" finished shotgun. It was supposed to be protected from the saltwater environment. When he was up here last year, he brought it along and we refinished it in duracoat. It has not rusted since, and the only thing that changed was the finish. He cleans and stores it the same way.
I would say, if you plan to do more than one gun, get a good sprayer. You can get them online, or at a hobby shop. The one that duracoat sells is OK, but the higher end models do give you a better spray.
