Anyone getting ready for some fishing??? I have been stocking up on some new lures for this year lately. I plan on doing a ton of fishing this year and also trying my luck at a few tournaments. Anyone else getting the fishing itch yet???

Got the itch, like I spent the weekend in Vegas! ROTFLMAO
Planning on doing more than last year, and that is saying something. We went out something like 32 times between June and July. Our daughter is quite "hooked", and she wants to catch a big catfish this year. Last year she finally managed to land a 1 1/2 pound Channel, and she was stoked!
This year her and I are going to go out just the two of us. I know a few places on the Rock River where she has a real good chance of hooking a 10-20 pound cat. I will probably limit her to 12 pound test though, as she also has a really good chance of hooking into a 30-40 pound Flathead, and that would be a lot of fish for her to try and handle in a boat. I have caught 4-5 in this section of the Rock that have went over 40 pounds, so I know they are in there.
She also is really excited about starting the Mepps Master Angler Program. You have to catch four qualifying fish to become a master angler, and I think we can get that done for her as well. We are going to try for Crappie (White and Black), Bluegil, Sunfish, and Largemouth Bass. The minimum weights are 1 pound for the first three fish, and the minimum on the Bass is 3 pounds. I have a new little honey hole that she can get 3/4. The Black Crappie is the only one that is not in that little private lake. Last year she caught each of the three species, over the minimum weight in that little lake. But she was using a different lure, she has to do it with a Mepps lure. But, we know they are there, and she had good success with Mepps lures the few times she used them last summer.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention it but I now have a fishing boat. My father bought it, and it needed some work. I did all the labor, and the deal is he will store it and use it once in a blue moon. Any time I want it, I just have to go get it. It is an older 14' extra wide jon, has three new swivel seats, new trolling motors, and is a great little boat. It doesn't turn heads, but it works for what we want.

Cool JD! Mepps makes a great inline spinner, so hopefully she can get it done. As for the boat, a good looking boat doesn't help catch fish. I fished a big bass tournament last year with several of the other boats being in the $40K-$50K range. It made me feel a little funny in my little Bass Tracker until I took their money in the tournament! LOL....

Been fishing out here on Devils lake a few times and it got me thinking. Do we have a fishing contest in store for this year? Im ready to catch some fish. Plus like JD I also saved enough money from working in the summer and bought a 14 foot extra wide with everything in it. the guy who had it before me told me the original owners where 2 welders and they decked the inside out. It has a nice platform, live well, bilage pump, radio, etc. so im excited. Its old but its my first boat so its goin to be slayin some fish this year hopefully!

Awesome Adam. Cant even begin to tell you how much fun ive had in a little boat like that. You can get into some spots most people cant get to. Backwaters can great for bowfishing also but you already know that. I also purchased a 18ft boat last year for some big lake fishing. Walleye dont stand a chance this year. Cj dont feel bad man i didnt get much time to hunt myself but the little bitof time i did have i really seemed to enjoy more. So just think how much joy next season will hold for you. As for fishing we all know how much time you need for that! lol
