You don't get them to come in... you have to go to them. Pre-rut you have to hunt trails leading from food to bed and bed to food. Hunting the food usually doesn't work because the bucks won't come out until after dark. They stage in the woods, browsing until it's dark. Vice versa a mature buck will leave the feeding area before first light. If you're property does not have wooded cover you'll likely have to wait for the rut.

You can rattle them in. Ive been doing it for years and it does work well. Works better with a decoy!!!!

During the pre-rut I have had good luck by using the best decoy ever!!!! I use the doe's in the area that I am hunting. The younger bucks will be on the prowl during this time searching for doe's. The mature bucks will generally hold off until the doe's are actually coming into estrous. You can focus on hunting the edges of doe bedding areas and late evening staging areas. These 2 key areas are the most productive during the pre-rut. Good luck and your bill will be promptly sent to you in the mail! LOL......

My advice is hunt and hunt often so you get accustomed to what the deer in the area are doing. Know that they value their privacy especially the bucks. Don't think that you can just set up a stand sit a time or two and have a nice buck come out for you. You've got to put in the time learning travel routes...(trail cams help here), scouting bedding areas...trail cams help here too if youre seeing a good number od does always approaching from a certain direction...go that way and check it out. Bucks often have their own trails too. They may intertwine with the main trail but often not. If you think you've got a minor trail off to the side...set-up a couple mock scrapes with trophy buck and a trail cam and see what happens. Give it a couple weeks though cause the buck may have a sizeable route he travels before finding the scrapes.
Rattling can work but set-up in the fringe of thick stuff or where trails converge or cris cross. ALways always always be super cautious of your scent and movements...older bucks often got that way from learning hunters behavior and how to avoid hunters. Take care. Have a good season.
