screwed up!

I went hunting in the same stand again this evening. Got in the stand and wasnt there about 20 mins and a small doe comes in. She is feeding right towards me, so I watch her for about 5 minutes and then a bigger doe comes in from the same place. The small one is about 10 yards and the big one is maybe 20 yards. I watch them eat for another 5 minutes then the big one turns broadside. So I'm all pumped up and take the shot. I hear the thud when the arrow hits but couldn't see where it hit. Thought I had a sure kill shot so I wait 20 minutes and try to quit shaking, then I get down to look for her. Found the arrow and it has no blood just covered in green stuff. The wife is also hunting so I wait on her to come help me find it. After she gets there we find a blood trail. Started out with a little blood then gets less , drops down to just a few drops, picks up a little drops off over and over. After we track it about 400 yards we finally lost the trail any more blood. Looked all over and never could pick up the trail again. So there is a gut shot deer out there somewhere!. This really sucks!! I went from a super high to feeling like dirt!

Coyotes and/or buzzards will find her dead in a day or two. Sniff out the smell and you'll find your deer.

been there done that. I would walk the area fully if you havent already. Most wont go that far if not pushed. Good luck.

That sucks bud, it happens, but dont give up. I would head back out in the morning to where you lost the blood trail and start doing circles, larger and larger, you can actually cover a lot of ground this way with two peaple. Besides that, all you can do is just give your best effort in retrieving the deer. Just remember, its bad to lose the deer, but nature wont let her go to waste, foxes and buzzards will make sure of that! Good Luck

Thanks guys!! I wanted to go back and look again but Im on dayshift today and the wife has surgery tomorrow so I need to get her ready for it. The deer would be no good if I did find it because it is gonna be about 70 today. I guess I will not be hunting for a couple days, until the wife heals up anyway. Good luck to the rest of you!

We went back this evening just to see if we could find it but no luck. At least I can say we tried. But we did find some good rubs and got a pick of a real good buck! We put a camera on the big rubs so hopefully we'll have some more pics of a big one!!
