What types of lumber are the best to use? Where might I find the best prices on the lumber?

You can use just about anything you want. I use oak or poplar. As for buying it I don't know. I make mine from rough lumber and plane it down to 3/4-7/8.

You can also cut it out of a piece of quality plywood.

You can purchase them prefab from vand**estaxidermy.com . That's where I get mine for my taxidermy work.

Be creative!!! Some of the best looking panels I have used ranged from old barn wood to cross cut oak. When purchasing the wood, I generally go with a midlle to high grade 3/4" plywood.
