All I know is I hunted both early and late Friday, at two good spots, and saw zilch. I couldn't hunt yesterday because Ryan was in a baseball tournament, but I saw lots of deer within an hour after dark on the way home. This full moon makes it tough. Hopefully by the end of next week thing will settle down a little.

I do think the moon phase affects deer movement, but daily weather affects it more.

I do think the moon phase affects deer movement, but daily weather affects it more. I agree 101%! I kept a journal a few years back to the times and dates of every deer sighting and then compared them to a moon phase chart. It was very accurate.

I also agree with the local weather pattern thing moreso then the astrological hunting calender. For fishing it seems to work a little better but hunting for me its a total bust.
I've found low pressure systems and threatening storms have great effeects on deer movements. Time of season is another HUGE factor...as we all know the chemical balances that change as the season progresses drive the deer as well as the hunter crazy. I'm getting kinda crazy at THIS point...I know that the deer should be moving more and more looking for mates...I've seem the scrapes multiply and the trail cam also is starting to show some movement patterns. I'm still hopefull...just gotta blast some dogs and then I'm sure I'll get some deer.

Well I just spent half an hour correlating all my Virginia kills and my 2 unrecovered hits with a perpetual lunar calendar. I am trying to correlate time of sighting (morning, midday, evening) with moon phase. I excluded the deer I killed that was jumped up by a dog, because this deer was obviously bedded, and I'm looking for deer movement. I also excluded West Virginia kills because I have found deer movement to be totally different there. I also only hunt there 1 week a year so I don't think it's a big enough sample to be valid. I am sad to report that this was a half hour I'll never get back, because there seems to be no correlation. Here are the results, for those interested:
11-4-06 8:30 am 6 point 1 day before full 11-6-07 7:30 am 8 point 4 days before new 11-9-07 4:00 pm doe 1 day before new 1-4-08 4:45 pm 8 point 4 days before new 10-18-08 6:10 pm button 2 days after full 10-5-09 6:10 pm doe full 11-13-09 6:15 pm doe (lost) 3 days before new 10-9-10 6:10 pm doe (lost) 1 day after new 10-11-10 6:10 pm 3 point 3 days after new
The only thing obvious from this list is that I need to get in the woods at 6 pm if I want to see deer.

I do believe the full moon makes them move more at night and i also see more movement around noon than normal. It does have an effect but i think you can still kill a deer.

Drastic weather changes will no doubt affect deer movement.. But moon is king.. According to Charles Alsheimers book Hunting whitetails by the moon.. And I don't care what anyone says Charles is the man when it comes to whitetails. His info comes from years and years of observation and data collection... One of my favorite shows is "Deer and deer hunting" where Charles lays it all out every weekend.. in fact if you are serious about your deer hunting this book is required reading. www.amazon.com/Hunting-Whitetails-Moon-Charles-Alsheimer/dp/0873418131

I think the bottom line is that you've simply got to hunt the deer in the area where the deer live and move. If you're not out there then you'll never succeed at seeing them pushing them or taking them down.
There are too many vaiables that change and range fomr area to area, state to state, and day to day. My suggestion is to just get out and hunt them down.

You pretty much got it Dag. there are alot of variables that effect the feeding times. I believe the moon dictates it, but then there are alot of things that can change that. Weather, pressure, Rut, and abundance of food.
I think that deer feed 4 times a day, somehow coinciding with tides. About every 6 hours or so. Two of the feeding times a day will me major feeding periods and the other two minor.
If you have pretty constant weather these feeding times will go like clock work.
Keep in mind not all full moons and new moons are equal.
This last full moon rose as soon as it got dark , and was going down when it started getting light. Sometimes the rotation doesnt have the moon out all night like that.
