To make a long story short.. My son Hunter was bought home at 4am by local law enforcement about a month ago.. He was not arrested but got a citation for MIPbC minor in possession by consumption.. Him and 5 of of his buddies were spending the night at one of their houses and drank a beer[one beer each] Which would have been fine but they left his buddies house[parents?] and went for a late night stroll. They were stopped by a police officer who said he smelled alcohol and gave them all a breathalyzer test, none of them were over the legal limit for a teen.
Anyway we had to hire an attorney[$1500] and managed to avoid court.. Hunter got diversion which includes 40hrs of community service.. A couple of the other boys actually got probation+ still have the diversion[dang]
Now the fun part just try and find a place that will let a 17yo do community service much less court ordered community service.
Back when I was a teen it never would have come this. The cop just would have made us call our parents to come get us or would have lectured us and took us home.. BTW they will still do this in a small town.
I gotta say I think this is a load of crap for one beer...
So we are looking for ideas and places to do his community service..why do I feel like the one getting punished?

Check with one of your local churches. We allow people to come in and do community service here at ours.

My nephew did the same thing only he was drunk. Hes been doing his community service at St. Vincents store. Habitat for humanity also comes to mind. I helped build a couple of houses and there were people there doing some "service".

Here is an idea, see if the judge will let him pick up trash along the roads or rivers. There is always an excessive amount of trash being tossed out by the slobs in our society.
Smoke...
