Why are turkeys so...

abundant during Deer season and so great at hiding during turkey season? Anyone else see way more turkey during deer season than during actual turkey season?

I'v e been given permission by the landowner to take one during deer season but I'm a law abiding hunter. Its not like anyone would ever know unless I told them if I did take a bird out.

Seeing a really large takable 9-10inch bearded TOM today makes it hard to resist. It was quite spectacular seeing him trot in and feed literally under my stand. He retreated to the thicker stuff when I took out my camera phone to take his picture.

Here in Illinois, Deer & Fall Turkey Season both run from Oct thru Jan. I always buy a tag but rarely do I see any Birds while on stand. Only taken 1 bird over the years while on a deer hunt. Spring Season is a different story though.

I dont see many during season either. We do have a fall season but i always hunt in the spring for them.

im the same way i bought 2 this year cuz i seen so many and i have had my chances i guess but couldnt capitalize

Turkeys are like hogs at my place. When you pull up to a food plot they just start eating faster. Until you get within 15 yards, then they just hop in the woods until you leave again. I wish we could shoot some in fall and shoot hens. We have way too many hens.

I guess it doesnt help that I don't really turkey hunt in the spring. I have killed two there in 6 years. One of my buddies killed two there last year both were huge old birds.

It would totally make sense for the South to have a Fall turkey season that coincides with deer season...even if it was only a month like October or maybe November since ya know Thanksgiving is in that month...wouldn't it make sense to be actaully ABLE to shoot a turkey for Thanksgiving instead of just the spring. Spring is wayyy to busy for me to even think about hunting.

I'm with you grassi...I hear them EVERYtime Im in the woods this season...and have seen more turkey then deer.

i haven't seen any yet this deer season but seen some last year and year b4!! I wish we had a fall season in louisiana but only a spring but its really fun i love it, i get a big rush when i hear those gobbles at daylight and they get close, didn't get one last spring but hopefully this spring!!

I've hunted turkey a couple years and still havn't gotten one either. Heard them and saw they flying but too far away for a shot.

i brought my buddy with me last year and we had 2 jakes come in at about 15 yards and i had a clear shot but he didn't and we didn't get them!!

I think I would have left my buddy hangin if I had a clear shot. I think he would have wanted me to take the bird.

i agree thats what a true friend woulda done and if i was in that scenario i would have wanted my friend to shoot so we didnt go home empty
