I think I've been challenged by the local monster buck. I was hunting tuesday after work and didn't see a thing, not even a squirrel was moving. Then wednesday I took a day of vacation to take my wife to the airport for a 6:00am flight, and to get in a full day in the woods. I left the airport at 05:15 and rushed home to be able to get in my stand by the legal hunting time. I was lucky to make it to my stand while it was still dark and got set up at 06:45. As the light increased I noticed something was different around my stand. Two new scrapes had been made during the night. One is only 4 yards from my stand on my right, and the other is about 10 yards to my left. Both are about 2 feet across and they both have licking branches above them that are fresh. I just wish I could be out there this morning instead of being at work, but I plan to be out there tonight to accept the challenge from the buck that made those scrapes.
Wish me luck, I need all that I can get. Smoke...

Yeap...THATS a challenge...definately a challenge. Rise to it and take him out...either that or post a trail cam and see if it IS the monster buck of the woods. My bet is its NOT. Good luck.

I saw the local monster again on sunday afternoon, and once again he was just too far away and in the brush for a good shot. The wind was in my favor and I'm sure he didn't notice me. I can't be out there today but plan to hunt tomorrow after work and all day the rest of the week. Monday is the start of gun season and I sure do hope that he shows up in the same place. I won't have any problem then with my 50 cal. Hawken in my hands.
