This is the third and final attempt at this archery thing!!!! I have bought and sold two bows previously. I ran into a childhood friend that has convinced me to do the bow thing. So I need recommendations. I am going to go between 50-60lb draw. ( I am big but weak) LOL. I am seriously wanting to some good advice. I intend on hunting next fall and want a bow that wont kill me to shoot and is forgiving for a 41yr old rookie. Thanks

I shoot a hoyt but would just go find a bow that feels good. Make sure you get a bow that is sized to you. Archery shooting is fun and a great stress reliever and it allows you to hunt before the pressure gets put on the deer.

I agree, go to a bow shop, shoot a few and go with what feels best.

There is no one single bow that is what everyone likes or shoots well. There are so many different types and manufactures that it is really neccesary to go and shoot some and see which one feels best. There are just to many variables involved to just say buy this one. Myself i would be looking at Hoyt,Darton,Matthews,Pse,and bowtech just for a starting point. These are all quality bows and you shouldnt have any trouble with any of them. One thing i will say is that some bows require alot more maint. than most. The matthews will require you to twist the string after awhile to keep it in tune. Go talk to some bow shop pros that dont work for the big box stores. The big box stores dont have the customer service that is needed after the sale to suit my needs.

Figure out what you want to pay, first and foremost! Then go to every "bow shop" in your area and shoot as many different bows that you can in your price range from as many different bow manufactures than get the one that feels and shoots the best for YOU! I personally like Hoyt, I like the feel and how they shoot, you may not! Dont shoot something just because someone says its the best! And dont let a salesman talk you into a bow your not comfortable with! Only other thing is, make sure you buy from a "shop", not joe blow or big chain store. I made that mistake and cost me in the long run! A "shop" will do adjustments, service work, ect for free (in most cases) where others do not, or on the flip side, if you buy something from a big chain store 3 hours away and need your bow tuned, your local shop will hit you with a nice fee for working on your bow, since the bow wasnt purchased from them.

Thanks all. I went to a shop today and was amazed by the amount of time that the owner took with me. I was totally shocked that I am left eye dominant and should shoot a left hand bow after using my right hand all 41 yrs of my life. I did order a Mathews after going back and forth between the PSE Brute and The Missions Endavour by Mathews. I am ready and prepared to start letting the arrows fly!!
