Had a deer test pos for CWD near where my hunting area is. The DNR says it will probably have a special hunt to thin the herd in the area, or use sharpshooters. Hope they take volunteers to help thin them out. Could be bad for my hunting the next few years.

We have had some of that here in Nebraska, not around either of the units I hunt though. They have been doing quite a bit to thin the herds through the whole state though. This year they started an october antlerless rifle season thats a week long, as well as about 3 weeks of antlerless rifle season in January. Hope they can get a handle on it up there so it doesnt mess up your hunting.

Man guys i feel sorry for you. I hate to say it but unless your Dnr is smarter than ours your deer hunting is gonna start to get really dismal. Not from the cwd but from killing off all the deer. Here they found bovine tb and thats when it all started. From there our Dnr started the early seasons and then late seasons and 7 years later we have no deer left. Our pop. has been decimated to say the least. Problem is there is no way to get rid of it. What are they gonna do should be a major concern to you and your fellow hunters. Some states have had cwd for decades with no sign of going away. So beware of what they want to do and be active with your fellow sportsman to make sure you still have a deer herd to hunt in the future!! Good luck!!

We have been fortunate so far in Georgia. Each year the DNR test for CWD in our herd and no incidents have been found.

How was your weather there over the summer? Did you guys have droughts like us in Indiana. We had our CWD 4-5 years ago because there was a long drought and no water, and the deer were drinking out of stagnant puddles. Our deer haven't been the same since. It especially was hard on the older deer. I have heard stories about Muscatatuck which used to be a prime place for monster bucks, and you could find carcasses and antlers everywhere from deer that had succumbed to the disease. Many HUGE bucks were found dead.
There hasn't been any reports of deer with CWD here in the last few years, so hopefully it won't pop back up.

There was an elk farm that had to be destroyed a couple years ago because one of the elk was found to have CWD. The deer that tested positive was taken only 3 miles from where the elk farm was. The DNR isn't saying that there is a connection but I think there has to be.

A deer farm in New York state and one in West Virginia are responsible for CWD on the borders of western Pennsylvania. So far ,none has been found in state. But we have had die offs due to Hemmoragic disease in south western PA.
