Last spring, my brother in law found a great deal on a little Fourtrax 70 4 wheeler for my kids. It only took a couple weeks till WVgirl and I figured out we needed another one for us. So I got a great deal on a Honda Recon 250 that needed a little work. It ran okay, but it was burning a lot of oil, and I decided to put a set of rings in it. I finally got around to it last weekend. Here's what it looked like to start with. As you can see from the putty on the front it's kind of rough: Pulled the plastic, seat, gas tank, and shields off: Next took off the valve cover, pushrods and rocker arms, and we're down to the head: Took off the cylinder: This is what a surgeon feels like when he holds a beating human heart in his hand: Honed the cylinder (and washed it in the kitchen sink when WV Girl wasn't home ): Replaced the rings, put it back together (no extra parts!), and fired it up. It ran great. I had a bad moment when I noticed oil running down the the front of the valve cover. Turns out I just forgot to torque down the valve adjustment access plug. Tightened it up and it's like new. Total cost of repair: $48 for the rings and gasket kit.

Way to go man. Pretty easy to fix those things. They can take a beating and keep on going!
