After hunting this morning, I freshened up the corn pile and scouted a little more around the BIG Oak stand. Just passed the shooting lane back in the woods I found a fresh scrape line. Interestingly enough I was lookin for rubbed trees figuring that the velvet would be coming off this week or soon. I put some trohpy buck scent in each scrape and set up a mock scrape IN the shooting lane to see what happens. I also re-set my trail cam to take a 2 shot burst of any deer entering the shooting lane and corn pile, and also shortened the lag time to 1 minute between shots. We'll see how that works out. I'm gonna hunt tomorrow and then pull the cards from all the cameras afterwards. Maybe I'll see if the velvet has come off yet. Y'all take care.

Sat this morning and saw my first buck..a small 5 pt lookin like a spike. Pulled the trail cam card also...and the velvet is coming off...got a lot of cool pics with the antlers dripping off the velvet. I'll post a few in the trail cam pic section. Apparently my deer sleep in on Saturday...I got in the stand @ 6 and they show up at 10. Geeez...lazy darn deer! I even switched stands and put out a bag of corn on one in between sitting. Read my journal post for more on that scenario.

I found one this weekend as well. A ground scrape and about ten yards away a nice rub. I put a cam on the scrape and both nights a doe came by the scrape. Hopefully I get a pic of him this week. Its right next to the river, in a beautiful spot. I sat there Saturday morning and watched bass busting the top of the water. Made me wanna get down and go fishing.

Well Machette it didn't matter for me how early I got to hunt. I just did take the first deer of the season last Thursday, Sept 28. Trail cameras havn't really shown that much deer activity, and even though I've hunted 17 times so far this season and saw deer 14 of those times, they were mostly does and weren't allowed to be taken until Sept 15. With the recent temp drop hopefully hunting will improve, at least the conditions will be more tolerable...less sweating and few to any biting insects.
