New Set

Found myself a new set while taking an odd route back to my truck.
This spot looks like it'll be my new honey hole.
The sign is amazing but I haven't really had a chance to hunt it yet.
I can't wait to put eyes on the monster that's making these scrapes & rubs.

I'd say you're sure to get him one way or another if you set up between rubs/scrapes and that water. I bet some antler rattling will bring him around also. A well established rub/scrape line like that typically is patrolled regularly and the owner doesn't like competition. Good luck.

Well, I got to my set this morning 45 mins before first light & it was freakin cold.
But the wind was calm & the ground was crunchy.
About 15 mins after sunrise I saw 2 yotes makin there way to the watering hole. They never knew I was there.
About 8:30 I decided to eat some breakfast after scanning the area one more time.
After I ate, I stood back up to scan the area & the biggest deer Ive ever seen was about 60 yrds from me & closing the distance fast.
I grabbed my bow & went to full draw as he trotted into one of my lanes.
I gave him a BAAA to stop him & instead of stopping, he bolted without even a look in my direction.
After he ran about 50 yrds from me, he stopped & looked back.
This monster then decided to swing downwind of me.
He circled me at 50 yrds for almost 5 minutes Im guessing before he meandered off out of sight.
I gave him a few grunts & bleets when he wasnt looking my way but he never did close the distance.

I stood there cussing myself for about 15 minutes when a yearling doe walked directly through the same lane as the buck.
She browsed the area for a good 30 minutes before a spike buck came in & started hassling her.

After they left the area I sat down & cussed myself some more.
I ended up sitting there all day just hoping & praying that this bruiser would come back through. But all that came through were some dink bucks & a few does.

Im guessing this deer a 180-190 class with at least a 18-20 inch spread. He was a main frame 10 but had more stickers than I could count. Im thinking he would have 14 scorable points.
Ive never seen anything like him in all my years of hunting.
And as I sat there cussing myself, I realized that I could have at least shot him with my camera, but I guess I was to amped up for rational thought at that point.

I think I still have buck fever from that encounter. ;D

Im heading back to this spot tomorrow. Im going to spend all day here waiting for this giant to come through. Its supposed to be a high of 34 degrees & a good chance of snow showers, so it should be an awesome day to be on stand.
I cant wait.
