For the past month. Every evening when we pull out of the woods there are 4 to 20 deer in the property owners front yard feeding under some live oaks and white oaks.
The funny thing is that in the woods about 400 yds from her house where the deer come out we have a corn feeder and nice food plot. And sure we see a couple deer there occasionally, but there are a bunch of deer in the peoples yard in the light, with dogs eating acorns, right after dark every single afternoon for the past 35 days. They are also, usually still there in the morning laying down.
It just shows how much the deer prefer acorns when they are falling. The next problem is that we have 3 miles of river bottom that is nothing but live oaks. I think that could be why the hunting has gotten tough lately. Maybe when the acorns are gone, it might get interesting.

My favorite sets are in white oaks. From what Ive read, white oak acorns have the least amount of bitter acids in them & thats why the deer prefer the white oaks over many others, such as red oaks.
If ya cant beat mother nature, use her to your advantage.

... but there are a bunch of deer in the peoples yard in the light, with dogs eating acorns... the dogs eat the acrons too???!!! those deer are smarter than you think. they know the acorns will be gone soon, but the corn will still be there because the feeder is still getting filled!

Our property is 90% hardwood. We feed year round between free choice feeders and several acres of food plots. We see plenty of deer at the feeders and food plots in October. But when the acorns start falling we have to switch to hunting the hardwoods. Then around mid December they come back to the plots.
