:)The Ohio spring turkey season is almost here. Saturday is the first day of the youth turkey hunt. Brendan (my grandson) and I are ready. I hope I can call in a big gobbler for him to shoot. I will be taking a 3 day weekend and plan to try for my own turkey on opening day of the adult season on monday morning. Wish us luck! Smoke...

I am hoping for the best for you and your Grandson. No matter the outcome he will always remember the time he shared with you doing what you both love so enjoy every minute of it.
I will also be out Monday morning for the opener here in Michigan.
Shoot'em in the face and best of Luck to you

Wow, what a day we had saturday. Brendan and I were in the woods behind my house at the legal start time and right away we had them gobbling on the roost. I had them talking to us for a while but they didn't come to the calls. After a couple of hours we decided to try my other woods. Our luck changed for the better and I was able to call two long beards to within 25 yards when Brendan took his shot. He knocked some feathers off of the lead bird but didn't put it down. He was a little dissapointed but said to me "Man, that's exciting! I can't wait to try again." We then tried another woods that I have permission to hunt, and we were able to work another gobbler for about 15 minutes but never got it to come close. At the end of the day we both agreed that we had a "DAY TO REMEMBER!" And that is what matters most.
Monday morning found me in the woods again but the strong north wind of 25 - 30 mph made calling impossible. I only saw 1 lone hen and never heard a gobble. I'll be back out again saturday for another try with Brendan. I hope we can do better then.
