Hey guys just stumbled on this forum and I am looking for some advice. I am from Kansas but have been in the military for the last eight years with very little hunting. I am about to move back home for good in April (just in time for spring turkeys). I wasn't born into a hardcore hunting family so I am trying to pave my own way. I haven't shot a deer yet, so my question is where should a relatively new hunter go to learn as much as they can about deer? Preferable a website, or a good book. My plan is to educate myself as much as possible between now and next season. Plus I plan on bow, muzzleloader, and rifle hunting next year. Our rifle season isn't during the rut and gets a ton of pressure. I have never shot a bow or muzzle loader, but have a good friend to help me with that. I plan on spending the summer practicing with all three weapons. What I need is a good place to learn the basics, and improve my overall deer IQ. Thanks for reading, I am looking forward to learning from you all. I almost forgot, I prefer stand hunting.

Welcome to the forum & thank you for your military service, its much appreciated. My advise is to read through your states Dept. of Wildlife website, kdwpt.state.ks.us/There's lots of good info there & will help with learning the Kansas hunting dates & regulations. There are tons of websites devoted to hunting, this being one of them, that hold vast amounts of knowledge on the different hunting related subjects. There are also magazines galore for your reading enjoyment that are as valuable as any old hunting guide. But if you have a friend who is willing to share his hunting knowledge, then listen up & pay attention. Again, welcome to the forum & if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask, we'll help ya the best we can.

Welcome to the site and Thank you
Onpoint hit it on the head but along with that there are a lot of great peolpe here as well that would be more then ready to answer any questions you may have. with people here from all over you will get different answers to your questions (all good) that will help you fine tune whats best for you and the area you hunt. Turkey and Deer behaviors vary from state to state so take what you can learn and tweek them to what fits you.
Best of luck and welcome again Arrow (Rich)
